If Hello Games vanished tomorrow, No Man's Sky would still be fully playable as a solo game. And it would be totally worth it. The only thing you would lose would be the consistent and regular updates for free, and the multiplayer aspect, which would be sad for some folks, sure.
Definitely No Man's sky. Ark is (IMO) a grindfest with shit graphics and toxic player base. No Man's sky is totally the other way around. Awesome community (maybe the top best, as I play too much games), awesome graphics (even more now after the recent update) and it's not that grindy. Even so, you just enjoy yourself out doing missions, making Nope. If your ship is worth say 100M resale and the one you want costs 50M, you get the ship free. Then a little switcheroo and you get the 100M ship back. At most if you didnt have a salvage ship, you may be out 1M to buy a junk ship to abandon.
I wanted to buy No Man's Sky since 2016. But I waited for a sale. I thought, eventually, it should go on sale for -90%. But no. Never happened. I bought NMS 3 days ago for -50%. With recent updates, I think it will not be cheaper. There are new player guides on youtube that will help you.
If you follow the tutorial quests until you unlock the Anomaly, you can get coop missions there. @ 3: Go to the space station, make an autosave, reload. When you go back into space, you should get a communication prompt. Yes, that quest is horribly confusing. @ 4: people want a place to come back to, a home. That's human nature.
Buy all of them and use the map that you want to get what is from it, it's not like you won't be rolling in the resource to trade for them with anyway. They aren't missions though so there is no explanation necessary, you grab a few, hop down to a planet and use them and see what shows up. All of these existed before and after the cartographer
