Correct you can not check electronically. But its literally a 10 minute check on ramps. There is an inspection port you pop.off and you can snap a pic. I seen online, as well as reading in threads, that you can view cam phase adaptation value, I believe that's what it is, to understand how your timing chain is.

If so, what does it say about timing chain service intervals. My understanding of these chains is they were installed on engines to add durability and reduce the need for servicing (like timing belts required). Any help would be appreciated.

you need to replace the timing belt eventually, But that is completely different. the timing chain is a full engine removal. as long as you keep the right oil in the engine and perform regular oil changes, you shouldn't have to worry about the timing chain. i have a '10 S4 with 125k miles and it runs great.
Snow screen for air cleaner - Clean (Audi A4, S4, allroad, A5, A5 Cabriolet, S5, S5 Cabriolet, Audi Q5, SQ5, Q5 hybrid only) Ribbed V-belt and tensioner - Check condition and replace if necessary (Audi R8 Coupe, R8 Spyder only) Plenum Panel - Remove cover for plenum panel to check water drain and clean if necessary what you should be asking about is if you should replace the timing chain GUIDES. they are made of plastic and often are the likely part to fail. you're at around the point to be kinda worrying, but not quite. i would say shoot for ~100k. but plenty of b6s have made it far beyond that. drive her nice, change the oil a lot and you should be fine. If you find out that your car needs its timing chain replaced, then you should be prepared to spend close to $1,000, depending on your application. Drive Cave notes that the timing chain typically costs around $100, but the labor to replace it can cost anywhere between $400 and $1,000. While you can’t see the timing chain inside your engine

I was wondering if people still stick to the recommended interval which is 55K miles/ 4 years or due to new materials used in timing belts, would be safe to
