Nice and Monaco is about shopping, casinos, fashion, spending money. Nice has a nice historical side, Monaco doesn't. It's an eyesore in my opinion. Provence is a lot more authentic, with plenty of villages, natural places to visit, and doing it in June is smart. A lot less busy than July/August, more relaxed.
